Selected Meditation, Qi Gong, and Tai Chi Exercises for Mindful Living with Forrest Leker

This class will introduce the fundamentals of meditation and qi gong at a beginner's level. The techniques will also serve to deepen the practices of more experienced mindfulness students. The class will focus on seated meditation balanced by the moving meditation of qi gong.

The different segments of this class will revolve around exploring mindfulness as the ability to focus our awareness. Since what we focus on forms the moment-to-moment experience of our lives, mindfulness can have a transformative effect. The principles of this class can be practiced while sitting, standing, laying down, or moving throughout our daily lives. "Movement and Stillness" will give students a grab bag of mindfulness techniques to take home and enjoy while also providing a space in which to recharge and center themselves at this weekly, hour-long class!

Meet Forrest Leker After a decade and a half of practicing meditation and four years of daily tai chi practice, Forrest is still amazed by the calming yet energizing power of mindfulness exercises. He completed all three levels of the Yang Family Short Form of tai chi at the Gainesville Tai Chi Center in Gainesville, Florida. Meditation and tai chi have had a transformative effect on his life, and he is deeply grateful to be able to share this experience with others.

For many years he has woven together his personal practice of meditation, tai chi, and qi gong with his work with children and adults. In his eight years as an educator, Forrest has worked at a variety of settings such as schools, retirement communities, and a farm. Forrest is very passionate about sharing how mindfulness practices can enhance our daily lives, reduce stress, and improve overall health. Forrest loves nature, music, books, and spending time with his wife and their dog.
